A Contemplation of Sadness in Times of Trouble. To the Chief Mourners. A Hosanna of Gary.
Will sadness be my lot in life, O God?
You give of what is good, choice of the vine,
Yet the ground I sow bears thistles.
So long, I have waited upon Thee,
And my conferment has settled on sorrow.
But my reward is imminent if I do not lose heart.
I wept until my tears were dry,
For I have cried a river of tears,
And I weep as You wept too.
How long O LORD, how long?
Until my night returns to day,
For with you is light eternal.
