The night was waning fast… Reflections was on. The sunbeams shone down around the trees and licked the dew from the morning ground, but inside… well, in the house, in the real world, it was dark and quiet; about 2 AM. I was telling Father how I didn’t want to go to bed; how I just wanted to spend more time with Him. God spoke.
I thought about it, but the answer evaded me. It was late.
“I always try to have an answer when you ask me a question.”
Different than Ezekiel? Perhaps God meant the time He asked Ezekiel, “Do you believe these bones can come back to life,” and Ezekiel answered, “God, you know.” (Ezk 37:3 NKJV)
Ezekiel might have been saying, I don’t know, but I laughed a little. “Yes God, whether I respond with an answer or trust you to figure it out for me, I’m sure both ways are good.”
“Is there six times the amount of work to do than the amount of rest that you allow us on earth?”
“Well, maybe there’s six days to work and that’s where man stops. When there’s no relationship with you, we don’t get that rest, that seventh day. Maybe that’s why 666 is the number of man, because he trusts in his own works only and not in the finished work of Christ.”
“LORD… You know.”
“I’m just teasing you, Father.”
“Speak Lord, for your servant hears!”
God paused. I allowed this to sink in. I guess I take the day of rest for granted, not as an extension of God’s mercy.
“Well, I guess so we wouldn’t feel like we had to get it all done right now! So we could wait upon you and you could restore our strength.”
“Thanks; what’s the reason, God?”
It’s just as well that you gave up guessing… you’d never think of it. The reason is, I liked it that way because I saw the sunset. I watched it go down in the sky and I said, ‘It is good.’ And I just watched it. As I watched it set, I thought about the rest of the work I had to do and I said to myself, ‘I’m going to just enjoy this and watch the sun come up the next day, and then, I’ll begin again. Won’t the mountains and hills rejoice at the sound of my presence tomorrow morning? |

And so it was… Every day I added a new thing to enjoy… and lastly I added you… mankind. And when I rested that day, I spent time with my creation. All of it… With Adam, with Eve, with the animals, the birds, the fish, the oceans, the mountains, the sky, stars, the moon, and everything else in existence… and it did indeed rejoice at my presence. That’s why I’m so happy that you’re going to share eternity with me… because I want you to rejoice in my presence too. |
