II held my dog close, pulled his head down… “Shhh baby, it’s just noise, it’s okay… nothing to be afraid of.” I stroked the side of his head, and it seemed to ease his tension, if only a little. I was concerned. As I scratched his furry white chin and tried to reassure him that the fireworks would pass, God in turn spoke to my heart.
He spoke methodically, calmly, and reassuringly…. (in a way that God only can) “You know, that’s how I am with you too.”
He didn’t have to say much else, it was obvious, and not just a little comforting. The Father is here reaching down, speaking to me softly and reassuring my heart as he lovingly holds me in His arms. I never deserved something so wonderful. Sometimes, like my worried sweet doggie, I seek the master out. Other times, I’m running around the house panting and pacing. But for whatever reason, He holds me down and explains…
The litmus test of life is something I’ve learned to think about a lot. In science, you can stick a piece of litmus paper in a jar of acid to tell how acidic it is. Time is my litmus paper. Is what I’m hyper-reactive about going to matter in a few days? A week? A month? A year? Will I even remember why I cried out to God so vehemently? If not, well it might just be fireworks.

Thank you God, for
the freedom that
those fireworks represent!

The biggest battle has already been fought in Christ. The fireworks in our lives represent His victory in a war we’re fighting for our lives that’s already being won. When I see the fireworks, I know the conqueror, and His name is Truth!
Exodus 14:14
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still (NIV).
Those who are weary from the battle are needlessly fighting. We are to share the comfort of Christ. Gentle reader, you probably have heard, “Not today, Satan,” and, “Taking the fight to the enemy,” among Christian circles. Those Christianese sayings can be true, but not if the de-emphasize God’s role as our champion.
God commends us in:
Standing
Ephesians 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (NKJV)
Stillness
Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (NKJV)
Waiting
Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. (NKJV)
Resting
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (NKJV)
Assurance
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (NKJV)
Peace
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, (NKJV)
Prayer
Philippians 4:6-7 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV)
Spirituality
Matthew 26:52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. (NIV)
A familiar tune plays in the background. It’s an oldie but a goodie. It’s choruses of saints who have overcome the world, singing around God’s heavenly throne. It’s also the adoration He left behind, in order to prove that He adored you and me. Indeed, He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor 1:3 NKJV). Now, God seeks out your freedom. More than you or I may know.
And that’s a cause worth fighting for!
